Bibendum-- a.k.a. the Michelin Man-- gleefully unveiling Michelin's two-millionth X One wide-base single truck tire at the tire maker's news conferenence at the Mid-America Trucing Show

Michelin adds linehaul trailer tire and companion retread to its X One wide-base line

LOUISVILLE, KY. Along with celebrating its two-millionth X One wide-base single truck tire, Michelin Americas Truck Tires rolled out its new X One Line Energy T linehaul trailer tire and the accompanying X One Line Energy T Pre-Mold retread here at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

“Since the introduction of the X One, Michelin has led in the wide-base single category with tires and retreads for every application, many on their second or third generation,” said Ted Becker, vice president of marketing.

“The adoption of the X One has accelerated because of the fuel and weight savings it brings,” he added. “And we look forward to delivering additional savings to our customers with the launch of the X One Energy T featuring the breakthrough Advanced Casing Technology.”

Becker said the casing technology deployed for the X One Line Energy T tire for linehaul tires “delivers a significant reduction in irregular wear, which is often experienced in dual and wide-base single trailer tires.

“The tire’s Advanced Casing Technology results in a contact patch with a consistent footprint, regardless of payload weight,” he continued. “It also provides a 15% improvement in removal mileage compared to the X One XTA.” Offered in size 445/50R22.5, the SmartWay-verified tire has solid shoulders and microsipes that also help resist irregular wear.

Becker said the new X One Line Energy T Pre-Mold retread was designed to “allow fleets to continue reaping the benefits of the new X One Line Energy T tire.” He said this SmartWay-verified linehaul trailer retread provides “exceptional fuel economy and long tread life.”

The new retread features a full 13/32nds of tread depth and up to a 15% improvement in removal mileage when retreaded on an X One Line Energy T casing, said Becker, as compared to using an X One XTA Pre-mold retread on an X One XTA casing.

He noted that the retread’s “winged tread provides maximum shoulder adhesion and waved groove bottoms prevent stone drilling for added durability.” The retread is covered by the tire maker’s Michelin on Michelin guarantee.

Becker also related that fleets that have switched to X One tires have experienced up to a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency and more than 740 lbs of weight savings per truck. In addition, the X One technology allows linehaul and regional fleets to meet EPA SmartWay requirements and CARB regulations.

“As a result,” said Becker, “fleets have saved more than 150 million gallons of fuel, which translates into 1.5-million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that did not enter the atmosphere.

“With its weight savings, X One tires have also allowed fleets to carry millions of tons of added freight, resulting in increased revenue, better freight efficiency and additional CO2 emission savings,” he added.
