SAN DIEGO, CA. Mobile apps and integration with major component supplier systems were among the new features announced for Navistar's OnCommand Connection remote diagnostics. The system offers online remote access to diagnostic and repair information for all makes, not just Navistar's International trucks, and features an open architecture for integration with all the major telematics service providers, according to Mike Cerilli, VP and GM of the OnCommand business.
Starting in November, subscribers will be able to download iOS and Android apps for smartphones and tablets for access to individual diagnostic information "anywhere in real time," Cerilli said in a press briefing at the American Trucking Assns.' annual management conference.
Also starting next month the system will include direct access to Cummins Connected Diagnostics codes and recommendations through the OnCommand portal. The integration with Navistar's major heavy-duty engine supplier signals just the beginning of future direct access to other major component suppliers' diagnostic systems, according to Cerilli.
A third new feature for the system coming in November is customizable geofencing for its dynamic real-time mapping. The new geofencing will allow users to filter dashboard reports into geographic zones, as well as set up automatic alerts centered around terminals, shops, customer facilities or any other location they deem important.
"And we're just getting started with new feature development," Cerilli said.
Navistar also put on display what it calls its "most fuel efficent Class 8 truck specificiation. The ProStar featured and Eaton Cummins SmartAdvantage powertrain, which combines a Cummins ISX15 engine with the new Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated manual transmission. The combination offers SmartTorque2 ratings that automatically select the most fuel efficient gear based on the vehicle's dynamic torque requirements.
The fuel spec ProStar also featured a new Dana Spicer AdvanTEK tandam drive axle specifically designed to handle low-RPM, high-torque conditions encountered with "downspeeding" powertrain specs aimed at improving fuel efficiency.
