Key takeaways

  • NHTSA recalls impact multiple commercial truck brands, highlighting ongoing safety risks fleets must address promptly.

  • Fleet managers should monitor notifications, perform timely inspections, and apply updates to ensure compliance and safety.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Altec, Ford, Rivian, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Altec models’ blown fuse may cause engine shutdown

Altec Industries is recalling certain 2024-2025 Altec Aerial Device and Digger Derrick vehicles. The chassis ignition circuit may be overloaded, which can result in a blown fuse and cause an engine shutdown. An engine shutdown increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 19 vehicles. Altec will replace the hydraulic tank heater relay. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 31. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3247. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall number 24V681.

Ford models’ blank or distorted rearview camera image

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD; 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition; 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect; 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit; 2017-2019 Econoline; and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse. A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 1,456,417 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed September 22. Additional letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S89. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V270.

Kenworth models’ instrument panel display failure

Paccar is recalling certain 2024-2026 Kenworth T680, T880, and W990 trucks. The 15-inch digital display may fail to display warning lights or vehicle speed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 121, "Air Brake Systems." An instrument panel display that does not show critical information, such as warning lights or vehicle speed, increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 13,908 vehicles. Dealers will update the vehicle display software. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 425-828-5888. Paccar’s number for this recall is 25PACG.

Orange EV models’ driveshaft may contact and damage brake chamber

Orange EV (OEV) is recalling certain 2024-2025 HUSK-e Tandem terminal trucks. The driveshaft may contact and damage the passenger side brake chamber or brake chamber bracket. Damaged brake components may cause a reduction of brake performance and unexpected activation of the emergency braking system, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 16 vehicles. OEV field service will inspect and replace the driveshaft and brake chamber components as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 19. Owners may contact OEV customer service at 866-688-5223. OEV's number for this recall is 2025-SRC-06.

Rivian models’ hands-free highway assist software may incorrectly identify other vehicles

Rivian Automotive is recalling certain 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles operating a software version prior to 2025.18.30. The hands-free highway assist (HWA) software may fail to correctly identify a lead vehicle. Failure to detect another vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 24,214 vehicles. Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 4. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1744.
