Key takeaways

  • NHTSA recalls impact Ford, GM, and International vehicles due to safety risks tied to driveshafts, fuel pumps, tires, and brake lines.
  • More than 28,000 trucks, vans, and buses are affected, with repairs ranging from software updates to hardware replacements.
  • Fleet and independent owners should watch for recall notices and schedule inspections or repairs to reduce safety risks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ford, General Motors, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Ford E-Series models’ backup alarm sound failure

Ford is recalling certain 2026-2027 E-350 and E-450 vehicles. The backup alarm connector may become loose and detach, preventing the alarm from sounding when the vehicle is backing up. A backup alarm that fails to alert pedestrians and other vehicles of a reversing vehicle increases the risk of a crash or injury.

This recall potentially affects 316 vehicles. Dealers will replace the exterior sound connector on the frame wiring harness. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed March 9. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S12.

Ford F-Series Super-Duty models’ driveshaft may separate

Ford is recalling certain 2025-2026 F-250 SD and F-350 SD vehicles. The driveshaft friction weld may fail, resulting in rear driveshaft separation and a sudden loss of drive power. A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 11,431 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the driveshaft serial number and replace the driveshaft as necessary. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed March 16. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in late March. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S13.

GM truck models’ engine stall due to disabled rear fuel pump

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 vehicles with gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks (RPOs L8T and N2N). The rear fuel pump may not transfer adequate fuel to the front tank, causing an engine stall. An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 11,787 vehicles. The vehicle's engine control module (ECM) will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 20. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N262544420.

GM van models’ tire sidewall damage

General Motors is recalling certain 2025-2026 Express Cutaway and 2025-2026 Savana Cutaway vehicles. These vehicles may be equipped with a tire with sidewall damage. A tire with sidewall damage may experience sudden air loss or driver loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 826 vehicles. Dealers will inspect all tire sidewalls and replace tires with sidewall damage. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 20. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N252542620.

International IC Bus CESB models’ brake lines may become damaged and leak

International Motors is recalling certain 2023-2027 IC Bus CESB school buses. The brake lines may have been installed with incorrect hardware, which can result in brake line damage and cause a leak. A brake fluid leak can extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 4,393 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the brake lines and brake line retainers as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 27. Owners may contact International's customer service at 800-448-7825. International's number for this recall is 26502.
