Key takeaways

  • Brake delays in VTNA VNL trucks may increase crash risk; fleets should prioritize inspection and compliance with air brake systems.
  • Hino u-bolt manual errors could lead to overtightening and axle issues.
  • Instrument panel failures and noncompliant emergency exits show the importance of addressing recalls quickly to maintain safety and uptime.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from VTNA and Hino.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Hino models’ incorrect u-bolt maintenance instructions

Hino Motors is recalling certain 2026 NV7G, NV7D, NJ7E, NJ7D, NH7K, NE7D, and NH7G vehicles. The owner's manual may include incorrect maintenance instructions about how to retighten U-bolts. Referencing incorrect information may lead to unintentionally overtightening the U-bolts. The bolts can break, shifting the axle and leaf springs and increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 661 vehicles. Dealers will replace the owner's manual. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 22. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 248-699-9390. Hino's number for this recall is M0490.

Ram ProMaster models’ incorrect glass in emergency exit window

Braun Corporation is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ram ProMaster vehicles. The installed window may have the wrong type of glass for an emergency exit. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation." A noncompliant emergency exit can increase the risk of ejection and injury during a crash.

This recall potentially affects 13 vehicles. Dealers will replace the window. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 13. Owners may contact Braun's customer service at 800-488-0359.

VNL models’ delayed brake release

Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) is recalling certain 2025-2026 VNL vehicles. The service brake may take longer than expected to release. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 121, "Air Brake Systems." A delayed brake release can increase the risk of crash.

This recall potentially affects 222 vehicles. Dealers will install an additional brake valve and fittings to the service brake pneumatic plumbing. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 22. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2602.

VNL models’ instrument panel display failure

VTNA is recalling certain 2025-2026 VNL vehicles. The instrument panel may fail while driving. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays." An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 115 vehicles. Dealers will replace the instrument panel clusters. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 24. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2603.
