To ensure proper starting, the new Voltage Sensing Relay & Timer (VSRT) from Cole Hersee will disconnect auxiliary loads from the battery when starting voltage drops to a low level or a pre-set timer times out. VSRT is part of the company’s FlexMod line.

Cole Hersee said the device is particularly useful for emergency or law enforcement vehicles that leave warning lights and other onboard loads on, creating a potential drain on the battery.

VSRT will alert the vehicle operator when starting voltage is low and then start cutting off non-essential power loads such as air conditioning or exterior lighting, the company explained.

The unit has a service life of 1 million on/off cycles with a 10A rating, according to Cole Hersee. The company pointed out that VSRT can handle many loads directly or drive a relay or solenoid for higher amperages. Overvoltage and overcurrent protective measures are also included.

There is minimal wiring and a snap-in connector, making installation easy, the company added.
