On the heels of launching the refreshed Peterbilt Model 579 and Kenworth T680 Next Generation Class 8 trucks, Paccar has released the enhanced specs for the 2021 PACCAR MX-11 and PACCAR MX-13 engines
Both engines feature re-designed internal components to enhance fuel economy, with the MX-13 yielding up to a 2.4 % increase in fuel economy and the MX-11 gaining up to 3.4%. These are dependent on the application and specification, Paccar noted.
The MX-11, which is often used for regional, vocational and refuse applications, can now be spec’d with a rating up to a 445 hp at 1,700 lb.-ft. of torque at 900 RPM. The larger MX-13, more suitable for on-highway and heavy haul, can be spec’d up to 510 hp at 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,000 RPM.
Using Paccar’s integrated powertrain, which includes the 12-speed Paccar TX-12 transmission DX-40 axles, and running predictive cruise control will further increase efficiency, the truck maker added.
Other enhancements include:
- Optimized combustion with multi-pulse fuel injection
- Smaller, more efficient turbocharger that boosts power and improves responsiveness
- Enhanced piston design has added features to reduce frictional losses
- Next generation aftertreatment system that reduces particulates and NOx without losing efficiency
- Fully-encapsulated engine harness protects against the elements
- Reduced connections between the engine and vehicle.
- Fortified structural integrity
To make fuel filter changes more efficient, Paccar mounted primary and secondary fuel filters on the engine, instead of on the chassis. The oil and fuel filters have a 75,000-mile life. Major components are protected by a 5-year/500,000-mile warranty.
For cab comfort, a 12-volt fuel heater comes standard for improved cold weather performance.
