Rob Phillips takes over family business

Nov. 22, 2013

Rob Phillips is now the fourth-generation of the Phillips family to run Phillips Industries following his appointment as president and COO. Rob Phillips replaces his father, Bob Phillips, who will remain as chairman and CEO.

In addition, Dave Phillips will take over as executive vice president.

“It’s time to pass the baton to the next runner as we look to the future and even more success for the company. With this latest transition, Phillips falls into a very elite group of only 3% of family-owned businesses that survive into the fourth generation. I’m confident Rob and Dave will build on the Phillips legacy and make it even stronger,” said Bob Phillips, who has run the company for 50 years.

Phillips Industries was founded by Rob Phillips’ great-grandfather in 1928.

Rob Phillips has spent 18 years with the company, most recently serving as vice president of global operations.

“I’ve been preparing to take the lead of our family’s business for many years,” he said. “I’m excited to use everything that I have experienced throughout my career and am taking on this new challenge with pride and enthusiasm. The most important lessons I’ve learned are from watching my father lead, as he has helped make a large impact on the industry over the last 50 years while building Phillips Industries into the company it is today.  My goal is to make sure Phillips continues this successful stride.”

Dave Phillips has been with the company for 15 years and includes positions in sales and operations. In 2012, he was promoted to vice president of business development. In his new role, he will analyze and assess trends, advising on sales and operations strategy as well as financial oversight.
