Speed limit reduced on Washington State highway

Drivers should be alert to a reduction of the speed limit on a section of State Highway 501 near Ridgefield, WA. A loosened guardrail prompted the Washington State Dept. of Transportation to reduce the speed limit from 40 mph to 25 mph in both directions.

The lower speed limit is in effect between North Reiman Road and North Smythe Road (milepost 18.0 to 18.2). The move is intended to ensure driver safety in a section of roadway where saturated soils have loosened the guardrail along the eastbound lane, according to a news report in the Columbian.

The speed reduction will remain in effect until crews make permanent repairs on the guardrail expected to be completed early this year.
