Winter Storm Jonas dumped two to three feet of snow across much of the Eastern seaboard, setting records and making roadways treacherous. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) fought Jonas’ snowfall with 13,000 pieces of its own equipment – including plows, trucks, and road graders – along with that of 9,500 contractors, working in 12 hour shifts to provide 24-hour continuous snow-removal capability.
