If anything belongs on a site calling itself American Trucker, this does: a Nebraska trucker driving along says he spotted a balled-up American flag at the side of the road, with folks just driving by, and he went back to rescue it.

"To me it was like a man down, and you don't leave a man behind," Jake Gridley posted in an album on Facebook, showing a photo displaying the red, white and blue on his truck. "I quickly turned this truck around and it became a search and rescue... I was gonna rescue that flag from the disrespect of laying on the ground."

He's not rich, he writes, but Gridley's got the freedom to choose his own adventure in this great nation of ours. "It is what it is, and I am what I am because I am an American."

We agree, Jake — job well done.
