Diesel up less than a penny, national average still below $3

Average retail pump price for diesel increased again this week, barely, according to data tracked by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Diesel in the U.S. increased 0.8 cents to $2.944 per gallon—but that’s still about $1.08 per gallon lower compared to the same week in 2014. Diesel prices went up in most regions of the country except on the Gulf and West coasts, EIA said. New England edged the Central Atlantic area for the largest price hike (4.1 cents compared to 4 cents), while the Central Atlantic held on to the highest average price, $3.333 per gallon versus New England’s $3.332. The Rocky Mountain region saw a 2.2 cent rise, to $2.801. Diesel on the West Coast less California fell 0.8 cents to $2.926 per gallon, though the price in the Golden State edged upward 0.4 cents to $3.233, according to EIA’s numbers. The lowest diesel prices remain the in Gulf Coast region, which averaged $2.795, down a tenth of a penny.
