A look at U.S. military towing and recovery operations

When a tractor-trailer breaks down in the civilian world, a heavy-duty tow truck is usually dispatched to deal with it. But in the U.S. Army, when M1A2 Abrams main battle tank breaks down – a piece of equipment weighing 62.5 tons – a whole different level of recovery service is called for. That’s when military units such as the 1175th Transportation Company saddle up for work.
