The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said it has exchanged National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) contract proposals with major LTL carriers and plans to begin final negotiations on December 16.

The current NMFA covers approximately 65,000 Teamsters nationwide and expires March 31. The freight companies negotiating the NMFA are Roadway Express, Yellow Transportation, ABF Freight System and USF Holland.

The Teamsters are hinting that wages and benefit contribution levels could be the biggest sticking point in the upcoming negotiations.

"The national talks will be the most difficult because we will be seeking fair compensation for our members, along with job, pension and health security, and significant changes in non-economic language," said Teamsters spokesman Phil Young.
