NEW ORLEANS. Upgrades for its BLU driver display unit offer turn-by-turn navigation Maptuit truck-specific routes and text-to-speech options able to read messages and other content to drivers so they can keep their eyes on the road, according to PeopleNet.
Announced at the American Trucking Assns.’ annual conference here, the Fall 2008 release for the BLU onboard platform also includes shortcuts for the touchscreen that can be programmed by drivers for quick access to as many as seven applications, and a safe-mode option that makes some BLU functions unavailable when a truck is in motion.
Later this month, PeopleNet also expects to add satellite communications to its current cellular-based two-way network, according to Brian McLaughlin, PeopleNet COO. Units with the dual-modem option will automatically choose the lowest-cost communications option available based on data file size and priority, he said.
BLU is a 7-in. full-color display unit capable of delivering audio and video content.
