SBC Services Inc., a subsidiary of SBC Communications, says it will use @Road to provide tracking and remote management for its fleet of 35,000 field service trucks. The communications company is now @Road's single largest customer for mobile resource management services, according to the company.

Liquid bulk hauler Service Transport Co. has equipped it entire fleet of 275 tractors and 425 trailers with the PeopleNet wireless data system as part of an upgrade to its safety and security plans. The fleet will use the system's geofencing feature to help it monitor movements of its liquid bulk shipments, as well as track vehicle and driver performance, according to Jim Brown, VP of operations and business development.

Spirit Truck Lines Inc. of San Juan, TX, is equipping all 400 dry van and reefer trailers in its fleet with the SkyBitz satellite-based untethered trailer tracking system. The fleet, which has extensive international operations throughout North America, will use the system to help it improve asset control for cross-border movements, according to company president Raul Garza.

ServiceTraks from On-Board Communications adds remote maintenance monitoring to the company's FleetTracks vehicle tracking system. It monitors PM intervals by both miles driven and engine hours, notifying managers when service is due by email or on-screen alerts. Truckload carrier Fanelli Brothers Trucking Co. has begun using the Expert Fuel fuel optimization application from Integrated Decisions Support Corp. (IDSC) to help it develop routes that minimize fuel costs based on current prices, tax implications, out-of-route-miles, driver amenities and other factors.

New geofencing technology for Maptuit Corp.'s FleetNav and TrackServe products provide high security levels of hazardous materials carriers, according to the company. Fleets using the new feature with GPS-equipped trucks or trailers can receive automated alerts via email, pager or wireless PDA when vehicles enter or leave geofenced areas. Users define their own boundaries using proprietary Maptuit tools. www.maptuit.com

Connell Oil of Pasco, WA, has begun monitoring its fleet of fuel and oil tankers with the GlobalGuard security communications system from Satellite Security Systems (S3). The system lets the fleet monitor drivers pumping or refilling their tanks in real-time as well as tracks equipment locations. www.satsecurity.com
