Cleveland-based Sterling Truck Corp., a DaimlerChrysler company, is planning a U.S. and Canadian truck tour for the third quarter of 2000. Dubbed the "Tour De Force," the six-city event will showcase the medium-duty Acterra line as well as Sterling A-Line, L-Line, SilverStar, and Cargo models. The tour will visit Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, and Chicago, plus either Los Angeles or Phoenix.

Each stop will be divided into two sessions where truckers will have the opportunity to drive Sterling's trucks as well as six of its competitors' models.

Sterling is also expanding its dealer network and its fleet support programs. The truck manufacturer is opening company-owned facilities in London, Ont., and in Chattanooga, Tenn., this spring. A new Sterling Compass fleet support program is designed to enable fleets to manage their parts and service purchases more efficiently.

A centralized billing service for qualified fleet customers (the program is open to fleets with 25 or more power units) forms the backbone of the new program, according to the company. Members are guaranteed consistent "not to exceed" pricing for parts and service at participating Sterling Truck dealerships.
