Thermo King's new Spectrum Series of multi-temperature refrigeration units for trailers consist of three models that replace the manufacturer's Whisper line.

The Spectrum SB, Spectrum DE and Spectrum Super II are designed for distribution companies needing trailers with up to three temperature zones.

According to Thermo King, all three reefer units provide tighter temperature control, faster temperature pull-down and recovery, higher capacities, fuel efficiency, and less maintenance.

“With stricter HACCP and food safety regulations,” said Mark Watson, global marketing director-diesel-power products, “our customers demand tighter control and more accurate monitoring of temperatures throughout the ‘cold chain.’ The Spectrum Series provides the temperature control necessary to ensure load integrity.”

Using new remote evaporators, the Spectrum units provide up to 35% more capacity than existing units, according to Thermo King, resulting in a 20% faster pull-down and 25% more airflow. And because the units pull-down and recover faster, the engines operate on high speed less and run less.

The Spectrum Series units also utilize Thermo King's Whisper technology, to provide the lowest noise levels available today, says the company.
