The average price for a gallon of diesel fell a penny to $2.596 for the week ending December 24, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Prices fell in all regions, except New England, where prices rose 0.7 cents to $2.737. The largest price break was seen in California, down 3.2 cents to $2.885. In spite of this, California remained the most expensive region in which to fill up. Prices were lowest in the Gulf Coast region, at $2.514 after a 0.5-cent decline.
