Police are seeking the driver of a tan Peterbilt with dark-colored fenders that struck and killed a bicyclist Tuesday morning near 59th Avenue and Latham Street, south of Interstate 10 in Phoenix, AZ.

Witnesses said the driver of a Peterbilt towing a white van trailer hit a Hispanic man who was riding a bike then the trucker fled the scene, according to a report by AZfamily.com.

Police said the driver of a second semi stopped to help the bicyclist and to block traffic from hitting him. "He put his truck in a position to try to shield that individual," according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the truck involved in the hit and run is asked to call the Phoenix Police Dept. at 602-262-6151.
