LOUISVILLE, KY. Using historic data, a new Traffic Predictor feature for Rand McNally’s IntelliRoute TND GPS system for commercial trucks will automatically offer drivers alternative routes based on expected traffic congestion. Announced at the 2011 Mid-America Trucking Show, the new feature is now standard on the 7-in. screen TND 710 IntelliRoute model.
Both the TND 710 and the 5-in. screen TND 510 can also be fitted with an optional real-time traffic accessory. Powered by Navteq, the real-time traffic service helps drivers deal with a traffic accident or volume bottleneck during rush hours and determine whether to re-route or stay on the current route.
Rand McNally also announced Moving American, a five-month long trucker appreciation tour that will visit Pilot and Flying J travel centers around the country. Leaving from Louisville at the end of MATS, two pickups with specially designed trailers will head east and west, stopping at some 200 truckstops over the next 22 weeks. They’ll offer drivers information on navigation systems as well as games and entertainment, according to a company spokesperson.
In conjunction with the tour, Rand McNally is sponsoring a “Navigator of the Year contest with at top prize of $25,000. Open to all professional truck drivers in the U.S. holding valid CDLs, who can enter by submitting an essay on why they should be crowned top navigator.
