The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the signing of the 100th partner in its Smartway Transport Partnership. Additionally, EPA has announced its new public service announcement campaign, dubbed “Products on Wheels.”
EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is a voluntary program designed to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution and promotes more efficient ground transport. By 2012 EPA intends to reduce up to 33- to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions annually.
“This achievement signifies a movement within the freight industry toward cleaner, more efficient operations,” stated EPA.
Companies can become Smartway Transport Partners by committing to an environmental improvement goal over a three-year period and annually sharing their progess with EPA. Partners achieve goals by adopting improved practices, processes and energy savings technologies.
