Monday, October 18 is the FMCSA-mandated deadline for training all entry-level drivers hired between July 20, 2003 and July 19, 2004.
Last May, FMCSA published a Final Rule setting training requirements for entry-level CDL drivers. The rule, which went into effect July 20, 2004, stated that all newly-hired entry-level drivers must have the required training in order to operate a vehicle in Interstate commerce. The agency gave fleets until October 18 to train existing drivers who had less than 12 months’ experience.
