    Carrier Transicold has introduced a hybrid diesel electric technology for its line of refrigeration units
    Oct. 31, 2005

    Carrier Transicold has introduced a hybrid diesel electric technology for its line of refrigeration units. Known as Deltek, the technology represents a “radical” departure from standard refrigeration through its expanded use of electronics and maintenance-free electrical components, according to the company.

    By eliminating serviceable mechanical parts and reducing the refrigerant charge, the Deltek technology can cut costs by up to 30% Carrier said.

    Components of the system include:

    • Ultra-high-performance aircraft-quality generator— the heart of the system— to provide all electrical power. The generator is driven by a diesel engine, creating the hybrid diesel electric powertrain;
    • Sealed electric compressor, with inside motor, eliminates need for shaft seal;
    • Maintenance-free electric evaporator and condenser fans to control airflow;
    • Electric-resistance heat for on-demand heating, independent of the cooling system and outdoor temperature.

      Product introductions are planned for the first half of 2006.
