LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kenworth Truck Co. unveiled a new cab interior for its Class 8 T600, T800, W900 and C500 models at the Mid-America Trucking Show, featuring advanced ergonomics, an improved HVAC system, added storage and contemporary styling.
“In designing this new cab interior, we listened closely to suggestions and recommendations from fleet customers and Kenworth Drivers’ Board members to help hit their customer-satisfaction target,” said Ed Caudill, KW general manager and Paccar vp.
To improve both ergonomics and convenience for drivers, the interior features a standard wraparound instrument panel, an easy-to-reach location for an AM/FM radio and rotary controls for the HVAC system.
The dash also has rocker-style switches in the key-switch panel, a dedicated light-switch panel, and a flush-mounted knob for the wiper switch. Under-dash trim and a steering-column shroud fitted underneath with soundproof insulation help improve noise dampening.
To enhance driver comfort, KW has added an under-dash console. The standard version comes complete with cup holders, a storage compartment, ashtray, lighter and 12v power outlet. The premium console option provides an extra ashtray and power outlet, as well as a premium “soft-touch” vinyl surface. It also backlights the lighter and ashtray for ease of use. In addition, the steering column can be easily elevated when the driver is exiting the truck by an optional foot pedal release.
The upgraded HVAC system features split ventilation between the defrost and floor modes; the placing of two floor vents per side; and improved side-window defrosting.
As for styling, new interior colors are available and seat coverings have been improved. Mordura fabric, which KW says is very durable and stain-resistant, is being offered optionally.
