Pennsylvania authorities placed 282 commercial-vehicle drivers and 942 commercial vehicles out of service during a weeklong statewide truck inspection program, Operation Strike Three, between July 21-27.

"We have put the trucking industry on notice that Pennsylvania will not tolerate unsafe trucks on our highways," state police commissioner Paul J. Evanko said. "We intend to keep up the pressure to make our highways safer for operators of all vehicles."

Enforcement teams found violations in 2,625 of the 2,927 commercial-vehicle inspections. In addition to placing operators and vehicles out of service, the teams issued 824 driver citations, 1,177 driver warnings, 2,643 vehicle-defect citations, and 6,079 vehicle-defect warnings.
