Plug In America appealed to automakers to accelerate production of plug-in vehicles to combat rising fuel prices.

“The price of oil at over $100/barrel illustrates the folly of continued over-dependence on petroleum as an energy source, particularly for transportation,” said Dan Davids, Plug In America president. “We call on Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi and others that are close to shipping these vehicles to bring them out as quickly as they can. We realize that GM and Nissan have already committed to making more cars to fill demand.”

“Overdependence on a single source of transportation fuel is unsustainable for the United States and for the world,” Davids added. “We advocate for electric cars that can do their part sooner than any other vehicle technology to alleviate this crisis.”

Plug In America is a nonprofit organization that works to accelerate the shift to plug-in vehicles powered by domestic electricity to reduce America's dependence on petroleum and improve the global environment.
