Jacksonville, FL-based Landstar System has selected SkyBitz, a Dulles, VA-based privately held provider of satellite-based communications and transportation tracking services, to install its Global Location System (GLS) device on several new trailers the carrier has scheduled for delivery in the first half of this year.

SkyBitz's GLS service is a global, satellite-based tracking and monitoring service that has initially been launched for the North American commercial freight transportation market.

The company says it uses wireless technology to provide low-cost, national tracking coverage for truck trailers, rail cars and cargo containers, pinpointing the location of both tethered and non-tethered assets.
