In a move that could make it easier for fleet mechanics to maintain engines, EPA is proposing that engine makers post information and manuals about their emission control systems on the Internet. The agency wants engine makers to supply information going back to their 1996 engines.

The EPA's intention is to improve air quality by giving mechanics the fastest and most complete access to model-specific engine data that manufacturers can revise whenever necessary.
