Kenworth Truck Co. today introduced an Electronic Vision System (EVS) option for its Class 8 product line at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas.

Kenworth's new vision system features a curbside video camera located on the sleeper of the vehicle's passenger side. The camera's image is displayed on a 6-1/2-inch, high-resolution video monitor mounted to the cab header. The curbside camera supplements existing mirror and window visibility by providing a wide-angle view of the vehicle's right side to aid in lane changes, turning tight corners, pulling in and backing up.

The curbside camera can be ordered as a stand-alone unit or with the Alpine DVD electronic navigation system, which also is a Kenworth technology option. The Alpine navigation system enables the driver to input a destination, then receive visual and even verbal directions, helping to keep the driver's attention on the road. The system comes with an easy-to-use remote control with push-button selection controls. The remote control can be operated in a dash-mounted cradle or hand-held.

The new curbside camera option is available with the T2000 75-inch Aerodyne and 60-inch sleeper models; and W900, T800 and T600 models with 86-inch Studio AeroCab or 72-inch Aerodyne AeroCab.

The Alpine navigation system is available on Kenworth's T2000, T800, W900, T800, T600 and C500 Class 8 models, and T300 medium-duty conventional.
