Without revealing their name publicly, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority said a trucking company owes the state $79,520 for running through 7,315 E-ZPass lanes in eight months -- without having bought the pass.
The company chooses the E-Z Pass lanes because they are faster than the other lanes, said turnpike spokesman Joseph Orlando. He noted that all such scofflaws owe the state $12 million for unpaid E-ZPass tolls since March.
Under current law, the state may not disclose publicly the license plate or name of vehicle owners who are scofflaws, but will turn the information over to a collection agency. However, police have been given information about the most egregious scofflaws including their regular entrances and exits on controlled access highways.
