LTL conglomerate Con-Way Transportation Services is now offering guaranteed service on shipments sent via its Con-Way Air airfreight-forwarding subsidiary.

In business since May 2001, Con-Way Air uses an Internet-based operating and shipment-monitoring system called Sentry. As of this month, if a shipment sent via Con-Way Air isn't delivered properly, the customer will not pay.

According to Gary Baud, general manager of Con-Way Air, the firm's Sentry Guaranteed service mirrors other Con-Way guaranteed delivery products. A Con-Way Air dedicated vehicle will pick up the shipment and deliver it to the air transporter. Dedicated ground service will make the final delivery to the consignee and provide immediate proof of delivery.

In the event of a service failure, the customer will not need to file a claim or contact the company. Con-Way Air will issue a "zero-invoice," Baud said.
