The seven subsidiaries of Con-Way Transportation Services have been awarded ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications by AQSR, an independent and approved agent of the Switzerland-based International Organization of Standards (ISO).

The ISO certifications apply to Ann Arbor, MI-based Con-Way's four regional LTL carriers, emergency/expedited freight fleet, logistics and warehousing, air freight forwarding, truckload brokerage, and intermodal service operations. Con-Way began the ISO certification process in March last year with the help of Southfield, MI-based consulting firm Follmer Rudzewicz Advisors.

"A number of our customers asked us to become ISO-certified. It's part of the business process and commitment they expect from their key vendors," said Con-Way vp Bryan Millican. "We felt it was time to take an extra step in our efforts at continuous improvement and customer commitment. We started a Six-Sigma program within Con-Way two years ago. That program is aimed at raising conformance to our service standards. But we felt the independent opinion of the ISO audits would give us an extra measure of improvement."
