Knight Transportation Inc. said it expects to report first quarter earnings of 2001 to be at, or very near, the low range of consensus earnings expectations of about 26-cents per share.

"Due to current economic conditions, we are experiencing softer freight demand from our customers,” said CEO Kevin Knight. “At this time, the economic conditions are challenging.”

Knight added that the company anticipates slower growth through the second quarter of this year.
