Internet security is becoming a major concern of the FBI as more and more users, from businesses to individuals, are being affected by a variety of cyber attacks – from hackers to computer codes that disable entire systems. “Protecting the nation’s cyber infrastructure is a top priority for the FBI,” said FBI director Robert Mueller, noting that the agency is working with the Dept. of Homeland Security
Internet security is becoming a major concern of the FBI as more and more users, from businesses to individuals, are being affected by a variety of cyber attacks – from hackers to computer codes that disable entire systems.

“Protecting the nation’s cyber infrastructure is a top priority for the FBI,” said FBI director Robert Mueller, noting that the agency is working with the Dept. of Homeland Security and with state and local law enforcement on the agency’s Cyber Task Forces to track down the perpetrators of recent “Sobig” and the “W32/Blaster” worms.

“We are constantly facing new malicious computer codes including worms, viruses, Trojan Horses, and their variants,” added Jana Monroe, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division. “Unfortunately, such exposure has become a part of being in cyberspace.”

According to a survey conducted by Edelman Worldwide, nearly one in three Internet users in the United States has been affected by a computer virus or hacker in the past two years.

"Monitoring and managing network security 24/7 is essential for businesses today as more and more critical data is moved online and the online threats continue to escalate,” noted Tom Noonan, chairman & CEO of Atlanta-based Internet Security Systems. “The scarcity of resources, total cost of ownership and the real-time nature of security management makes this a true challenge for companies to take on.”
