Wireless, real-time access to diagnostic information will be available for ZF Meritor’s automated mechanical transmissions through eTechnician, a new onboard monitoring and telematics system from NEXIQ Technologies.

Under an agreement announced earlier this week, ZF Meritor dealers and service technicians will be able to remotely reprogram performance parameters, access stored performance information and run diagnostic routines for FreedomLine and SureShift transmissions. The eTechnician system can also perform similar tasks with any electronically controlled truck component.

Although similar agreements have not yet been announced with truck makers or other component manufacturers, eTechnician is expected to be available as an OEM option as well as an aftermarket add-on, according to NEXIQ.
