The Robert Bosch Corp. has unveiled a new alternator designed for Class 3-8 heavy-duty trucks that reportedly increases electrical output nearly 40% while reducing original and operating costs.

Smaller, lighter and with a higher current output than past models, Chicago-based Bosch said its LI-L alternator offers better efficiency which results in reduced fuel consumption and emissions, contributing to fuel savings of up to $250 per 100,000 miles.

The base alternator design consists of both 14- and 28-volt models, with a 42-volt version scheduled for production at a later date, said Bosch. Alternator output ranges from 140 to 200 amps and has a standard warranty period of three years/350,000 miles. The alternator, which is produced in Bosch’s Toluca, Mexico, facility, will be available in 2002.

Robert Bosch Corp. is the North American subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.
