Cummins Inc. announced today that it has received certification for its medium-duty ISB engine from EPA, saying it complies with the new emission standards that go into effect October 1.

The company said it is on schedule to have a full product line available for customers by the deadline. The 5.9-liter ISB engine is used in trucks, buses, fire trucks, step vans and other medium-duty applications.

"Customers will love this engine because they can maintain their maintenance intervals, have better performance and enjoy the same or better fuel economy," said executive director of marketing Tom Kieffer. "We have extensively tested these engines in real life applications, and the results are terrific."

The ISB is the second Cummins engine to receive certification to the October 1 standard by EPA. Cummins announced in April that its heavy-duty ISX engine had been certified.
