Dana Corp.’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group introduced three new vocational Dana Spicer tridem drive axles. According to the manufacturer, the new axles are designed to reduce life cycle costs and improve reliability, while giving customers a complete range of application-specific tridem axle options.

  • The T69-170HP Series, rated up to 200,000 lb. GCW, is suited for construction, heavy hauling and logging applications.
  • The T78-190P Series, rated up to 240,000 lb. GCW, is for applications that require superior traction and a high gross weight capacity such as mining.
  • Also rated up to 240,000 lb. GCW, the T78-59OP Series is designed for vocational applications that require high gross-weight capacities combined with high numerical ratio availability.

“The new axles include several of Dana’s patented drive axle features to meet the current and future needs of our vocational customers,” said Leo Wenstrup, senior product manager for drive axle systems. These include a threaded input adjuster, a hypoid gearing design that improves inter-axle driveline angles to minimize vibration, an on-demand pump that reduces temperatures as much as 20%, and threaded differential bearings with integrated adjusters for maximum life.

“Our OEM customers will welcome the fact that the new axles significantly minimize fit-up issues,” Wenstrup added, “while also enabling them to offer broader application ratings than those available with competitive models.”

The three models all carry a three-year/350,000-mile warranty for most vocational applications and are now available for production orders on all makes and models of trucks and tractors manufactured in North America.
