New Penn Motor Express has announced it has been selected to replace A-P-A Transport as “preferred carrier” to provide service to former A-P-A customers. The agreement was negotiated as a result of A-P-A Transport's decision to discontinue operations.

Late last month, A-P-A Transport president Armand Pohan said the North Bergen, NJ-based LTL carrier would shut down after 50 years in business.

“Unfortunately, our lending institution has now advised us that it would not provide us with the critical additional financing we have requested to weather the storm,” Pohan said in a statement.

To minimize service disruptions for customers, A-P-A personnel are directing customers to call New Penn for pickups.

“The decision of A-P-A to discontinue operations certainly came as a shock to our industry, and especially to the customers of A-P-A,” said New Penn president Stephen M. O'Kane.

According to O'Kane, New Penn is working with A-P-A customers to provide a seamless transition and ensure they do not experience shipment delays.
