Waco, TX-based regional LTL carrier Central Freight Lines took a step closer to being bought out by former Swift chairman Jerry Moyes by filing a preliminary proxy statement on its planned merger with North American Truck Line and Green Acquisition Company – both of which are controlled by Moyes.

The company added that once its preliminary proxy statement is reviewed and finalized, a definitive proxy statement will be mailed to Central’s stockholders to solicit proxies for voting at the carrier’s annual meeting.

“We are very pleased that this important step has been taken toward completion of the transaction with Jerry Moyes and his companies,” said Central’s president & CEO Bob Fasso. “We currently believe that the merger can be completed in July of 2006.”
