Cummins Turbo Technologies, formerly known as Holset Turbochargers, is adding a new 110,000-sq.-ft. factory in Charleston, SC to build turbochargers for heavy-duty engines produced by its parent company, Cummins Inc.

Based in Huddersfield, England, Cummins Turbo spent $13 million to build its new Charleston turbocharger plant. It expects to eventually employ about 180 workers at the facility, and to build 200,000 turbochargers a year.

“The turbocharger business is an important part of the success of Cummins,” said Tim Solso, chairman & CEO. “This new plant is going to allow us to further leverage the Holset product name and grow our business in markets around the world.”
