The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has announced that in July it will launch its Hi-Technology Tire Engineering System (HiTES), a new air-pressure monitoring system for truck and bus tires.

The tire maker said the system provides easily understood numerical information on tire pressure and internal temperature, both of which are critical to tire performance.

HiTES is comprised of a sensor unit, signal receiver, display, and LED indicator. The real-time sensors on tire rims retrieve pressure and temperature data, which passes through a signal receiver to a display located near the driver.

Also near the driver is an LED indicator that uses color changes to show air pressure status. This allows drivers to confirm air pressure in real time, reducing the time needed to conduct checks before they begin a trip.

Unlike visual checks done by drivers, the tire maker stated, the system brings accuracy and automation to the confirmation process.
