Nextel Communications (www.nextel.com) has added a mobile resource management (MRM) system to its national Wireless Web service. Provided by @Road (www.atroad.com), the application combines wireless messaging, vehicle positioning and XML with Internet access using its LocationSmart technology.

Vehicles equipped with @Road's iLM 2000i Internet location manager hardware and a Nextel Internet-capable phone will be able to send dispatchers and managers location information on demand, as well as reports on vehicle speed and stops. The new service will also provide two-way messaging and automated workflow status reports, and track scheduled vehicle maintenance.

The new service requires subscriptions to Nextel's packet-data and voice services, and access to @Road's LocationSmart network.

Nextel has also introduced a wireless Internet application provided by ClickSoftware (www.clicksoftware.com). ClickMobile allows real-time scheduling based on actual field activities and can be integrated with customer response management systems.
