Jobs Eliminated at Visteon

Auto and truck parts maker Visteon Corp. said it will eliminate about 1,800 jobs worldwide, including 12% of its U.S. salaried workforce effective immediately, as North American vehicle production slows.

The jobs to be cut by the Dearborn, Mich.-based company include about 950 U.S. employees, spokeswoman Liane Smyth said.

In January, Visteon announced a reorganization plan to split itself into two regional business teams, one for North America and Asia and the other for Europe and South America.

Visteon, which was was spun off by Ford Motor Co. last June, said it will take a charge of about $135 million in the second quarter to complete the job reductions.

The company said it will review its business outside the U.S. and plants in the U.S. Visteon has 33 plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and 85 facilities total worldwide. The company has 31,400 workers in the U.S. and 82,000 worldwide.
