Pennsylvania has awarded more than $900,000 in grants for 10 projects to improve rail-freight service, grants that have largely been focused on boosting intermodal service within the state.

Over $100,000 worth of grants was awarded to Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminals Inc. and $99,200 to the Bisconti Distribution Center to rehabilitate a truck transloading area.

"Railroads and their intermodal transportation connections play an important role in building a strong jobs climate in Pennsylvania," said Bradley Mallory, Pennsylvania's transportation secretary. "Keeping short-line and regional railroads in good operating condition means we're keeping the freight moving, supporting employers, jobs and families."
