Intermec Technologies Corp. today said that its 700 and 700 Color Series of mobile computers are the first rugged handheld devices to be approved for voice transmission over the AT&T Wireless GSM/GPRS network.
The computers support Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) wireless technology and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), standards for digital wireless transmissions. They enable users to transmit and receive voice calls and data wherever AT&T Wireless' GSM/GPRS service is available.
The 700 Series computer use the Microsoft Windows Pocket PC operating system.
"Our customers now can choose an extremely rugged device to take on the road, to the factory floor or wherever they need voice and data capabilities," said Laura Johnson, director, mobile multimedia services for AT&T Wireless. "We are glad to add the strength and durability of Intermec's handheld devices to our list of voice-certified products."
