Indianapolis-based carrier Celadon Trucking Services has announced that 100% of its drivers are now trained under the Highway Watch program. This makes it the second among the industry’s top 100 trucking companies to reach this milestone, said the carrier’s chairman & CEO Steve Russell.
“We feel very strongly about our responsibility as a truckload carrier to do our part for homeland security,” Russell said. “Our participation in the program is an important step in making our company and our country more safe and secure.”
Celadon’s milestone is doubly important for Russell as he serves as chairman of the American Trucking Assns.’ Homeland Security Policy Committee and is one of several trucking executives participating in an industry awareness campaign to encourage more trucking companies to participate in the Highway Watch program.
Highway Watch is a national safety and security program designed to use the skills, experience, and “road smarts” of U.S. transportation workers to help prevent terrorists from using large vehicles or hazardous cargoes as weapons. The program is administered by the ATA under an agreement with the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security.
