Truck-Lite has released 7-in. LED headlamps geared for the heavy-duty commercial vehicle market. According to the company, it is the first light-emitting diode headlamp to be commercially available and already has been put into service on a number of military vehicles.
Technicians tested the LED headlamps at the Army Cold Regions Test Center in Alaska, where evaluators said they were easy on the eyes, provided daylight clarity, and “should last through the 20- to 30-year lifetime of military vehicles.” They are currently available only for 24-volt applications with 7-in. round headlights, but Brad VanRiper, Truck-Lite senior vp of research and development and chief technical officer, said the company is testing 12-volt, 7-in. headlamps and expects them to go into production soon. www.truck-lite.com
