CNF's earnings rise

CNF Inc. said today that its third-quarter net income, operating income and revenue were better than the same period last year. Palo-Alto, CA-based CNF said cost controls and improved performance from its LTL carrier divisions led to the improved earnings. Net income was $33.5 million, compared to $28.6 million last year. Operating income was $43.5 million compared with a loss of $5.4 million a year
CNF Inc. said today that its third-quarter net income, operating income and revenue were better than the same period last year.

Palo-Alto, CA-based CNF said cost controls and improved performance from its LTL carrier divisions led to the improved earnings.

Net income was $33.5 million, compared to $28.6 million last year. Operating income was $43.5 million compared with a loss of $5.4 million a year ago, and revenue was $1.23 billion compared with $1.18 billion in same quarter last year.

"All of the CNF companies continue to meet their productivity and cost goals and the strategic moves we made in the past year are producing the planned results," said president & CEO Gregory Quesnel.
